Don’t Miss Out

Don’t miss out by failing to apply for your Art 50 EUV residence permit by 31.12.2021.

The team of British in Austria – www.britishinaustria.net – has a request for you to pass on this open letter to other British citizens you know living in Austria to remind them about the 31 December 2021 deadline for applying for an Art 50 EUVAufenthaltstitel "Artikel 50 EUV" The Aufenthaltstitel "Art 50 EUV" is a residency title to be issued to British citizens from the end of the transition period. Its name is derived from Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union. The "Titel" refers to the document or card itself, and not the right, or permission that it confirms. residence permit.

There are no indications of any extension to this deadline, so submission of an application by the end of 2021 is therefore absolutely imperative, to ensure that rights secured under the Withdrawal AgreementWithdrawal Agreement The Withdrawal Agreement sets out the terms of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU and provides for a deal on citizens’ rights. It sets out a transition period which lasts until 31 December 2020. During this time you can continue to live, work and study in the EU broadly as you did before 31 January 2020.   If you are resident in Austria at the end of the transition period, you will be covered by the Withdrawal Agreement, and your rights will be protected for as long as you remain resident in Austria.   Any rights that are not covered by the Withdrawal Agreement will be the subject of future negotiations.   https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/new-withdrawal-agreement-and-political-declaration   are not lost by not applying. We would also urge people to apply as soon as possible rather than waiting until the last moment, particularly if normal service at the local residency office is suspended due to Covid-related factors.

Your organisation’s members have hopefully received letters from their Gemeinde reminding them to reply as part of an initiative taken after contact by the British Embassy with the Gemeindebund. Britishinaustria.net has heard about numerous letters with often very personal messages added acknowledging the recipient’s place and value in the local community. This approach has been one of the very few ways to be able to reach people who are not online.

We have been trying to convince anyone and everyone we have met (largely) online to make sure they do not delay in applying. The latest figures from the BMIBundesministerium für Inneres The Bundesministerium für Inneres (BMI) / Ministry for the Interior (UK counterparty: the Home Office) is competent for public security, policing, border control as well as residency and citizenships. It is also responsible for elections and direct democracy instruments as well as the civil service in the respective provinces, as well as municipal level where they are not covered by the Federal Chancellery. indicate that 6,951 applications have been made in the first 7 months of the year, although almost 3,000 were made in the first two months of 2021. As of end of July 2021, approximately 4,500 British citizens had yet to apply. Today we are only 100 days away from the deadline.

We have always encouraged people to apply – and we have received hundreds of feedback forms about applications and contacted thousands more online to try to find assistance in all circumstances (from those on maternity leave through to pensioners, those who are self-employed and those who are in employment whether of a marginal, part-time, or full-time basis, as well as seasonal workers, students, and even new-born babies). A lot of information has been added to our website – we have a lot of FAQs that help with various circumstances, otherwise we have also received feedback from Bregenz to Burgenland. We try to help anyone we can on a purely voluntary capacity. On a parting note, to coincide with the 100 days until the deadline, we have also come up with a non-exhaustive list of some of issues that could arise, if you do not apply in a timely manner – at https://britishinaustria.net/dontmissout/ – please don’t let it come to that. Even if you have lived in Austria your entire life, as a British citizen you will need to apply.
