Hello! I have a strange situation. I am a dependent on my partner’s Art 50 as a familienangehoeriger, we both qualify for the 10-year upgrade; however, due to a misunderstanding with the SVS I was unaware that I was uninsured from January until May of this year. There was a box that I ticked wrong that charged me insurance on a year-by-year basis instead of continuously.
I am self-employed and pay into private insurance. I was continuously insured up until then and am insured now, and at the end of the year, most likely in April 2026, I will have to pay for the insurance retroactively that I missed, thus being insured retroactively as well. Do you think that this will affect my application if I can prove this is what is taking place? I am unable to rectify it until the end of this tax year sadly. Sorry that this is quite convoluted.

Hi, apologies for the delay in responding as I don’t check this that ofteen. What I can tell you is that ANY gap in health insurance could prevent you gaining the 10 year Article 50 card. I would recommend that you sort that out before applying. We had people denied permanent residence with 2 weeks gaps back in 2021. You might get away with, but you might not. Given the gap was relatively recent, it might be spotted.
