Moving after Brexit – customs, removals, etc.

Hello! We’re moving to Austria from the UK in about six weeks and we’re only just starting to plan the move, which I realise puts us very much on the back foot! I’d be very grateful any advice from anyone who’s dealt with this since Brexit.

It looks like there’s a lot of paperwork required, including special permission to bring in goods without paying customs. For anyone who’s been through this, how did it go? Were there resources, agents, or companies you found helpful? How long did it take? Are there any moving companies you’d recommend?

For information, we’re based in London. I have my residency permit (Blue Card) but my husband is still applying for his. We’ve lived in the UK for ten years and are making a full move to Austria as our permanent residency.

In my case I moved before Brexit but used Britannia Bearsby who are based in Kent (close enough to London) and were able to get a partial load – https://bearsbys.com/moving-abroad/. I also used UPS via Parcel2Go for shipping around 30 boxes. Would recommend looking at a BAR member – https://bar.co.uk/moving-to-another-country/ BUT my experience was that they all shut down over July and August and only start up in September.
