› Forum › Brexit-related › Removals from UK to Austria – paperwork
Hi there! We are moving from London to Vienna next month. We are trying to work out what paperwork we will need for moving our things by ourselves, hiring a self-drive van and not with a freight company.
Our question is: what documents do we need to cross from the UK to France (via the Eurotunnel)
Our understanding is this so far:
We need documentation for both entering the EU in France and for our destination country of Austria.
For France, we can show the Austrian customs form and our detailed inventory of our things.
For Austria, we can show the customs form, proof of new residence, proof of old residence from the UK, and again, our detailed inventory.
For the UK, we do not need to declare anything, as we are leaving.
Does anyone have experience of this? Are we correct?
Many thanks for your help,
Alex
Hi, As this is rather a niche area you might get better answers to this on our Facebook Group as there are more members. On the assumption you are a British National try British in Europe ~ Austria – https://www.facebook.com/groups/BritishinAustria. If you are not a British National then try English Speakers in Austria – https://www.facebook.com/groups/austria.english.speakers. As an alternative for British Nationals, you can try the British Embassy in Vienna (or France) – https://www.gov.uk/world/organisations/british-embassy-vienna#contact-us
For me personally, I arrived before Brexit, so different rules applied.
As an aside, here is the French Customs guide – https://www.douane.gouv.fr/french-customs-information-available-english#Travellers
Thanks very much Keith, much appreciated. I have contacted UK, Austrian and French customs about the situation. UK and Austrian both said to make sure you have “the correct documentation” for France as well as Austrian. But the Douane said as long as we have the correct Austrian forms, they will be satisfied to allow personal goods to pass through. Alex
