Only one month to still apply for your Art 50 EUV card

Information about applications for Art 50 EUV cards until end of 2021

Since there is only one month to apply for Article 50 cards, the Austrian Ministry for the Interior have advised us about updated information about making applications, particularly in light of the ongoing Covid-19 situation in Austria. The information is also due to be published on the Federal Chancellery Website shortly.

Where can I make the application?

You must submit the application in person to the competent authority. This is the provincial governor (Landeshauptfrau/ Landeshauptmann), the mayor (Magistrat) or the district governor (Bezirkshauptmannschaft).

Which authority is responsible depends on where you live.

Address and contact details of the authority (in German)

Due to the Covid-19 situation, you are required to make an appointment with the authorities. Please contact the authority to find out which appointments are available. If there is no longer a date in the online calendar for 2021, be sure to contact the authority. They will give you an appointment date this year.

You are allowed to leave your home during lockdown to make this application. The legal basis is Article 3 para. 1 no. 6 of the 5th Covid-19 Emergency Measures Regulation (5. COVID-19- Notmaßnahmenverordnung).

For all provinces other than Vienna: If your authority is unable to offer any appointments now because of the lockdown, you may also submit the application in writing. You will then have to come to the authority later when they ask you to do so.

In Vienna you can submit applications to the Magistratsabteilung 35 (MA35Magistratsabteilung 35 Residency and citizenship issues in Vienna are handled by Magistratsabteilung 35 (MA35). It has several offices in Vienna and where you need to go depends on whether or not you are an EU citizen (you go to one or other of its EU Referat offices depending on the district you live in), or its premises for third country nationals.). Further information and the appointment calendar for booking

A personal application is necessary because the authority has to check your identity and take fingerprints. Applications can be submitted from 1 January 2021 until 31 December 2021.

If you submitted your application in writing because of the lockdown and come to the authority in person later after you were asked to do so, the application is considered to be within the deadline (even if you appear at the authority only in 2022). In this case, you must observe the appointment given to you by the authority for submitting the application.
