Arbeiterkammer secures one-off refund for Netflix Customers

Eligible Netflix subscribers in Austria are entitled to a one-off refund following a settlement in a successful action brought by the Arbeiterkammer.

Netflix customers have been receiving mails from Netflix advising about a one off refund due to a settlement following a class action taken by the Arbeiterkammer against Netflix International B.V. The refund relates to the increases in subscription fees in 2019 and 2020 – and the amount of the one-off refund is €30.

Eligible subscribers have been contacted by e-mail from a netflix.com address and the veracity of the mail has been confirmed by both Netflix (and also in German) and the Arbeiterkammer. A number of users on our Facebook group thought it was a scam – such vigilance is however commendable.

Suspicions were fuelled by use of American English rather than German for such a notification (users may in fact have received the mail in the communications language set for their account, and Netflix may have also used machine translation for the mail). While this is a legitimate refund, please remain vigilant against scams – check official sources before clicking on any link in a mail like this.

Update: What you will need to claim the refund.

The online form requires you to upload the following:

  • Photo ID
  • Proof of address
  • Proof of payment (e.g. credit card statement) from before the increase i.e. Jan 2019 and after e.g. Dec 2020.

You then receive a confirmation e-mail.
